The royal crypt of Altenburg
The Fürstengruft Duke Joseph (1789-1868) set up at the former western end of the cemetery. Baumeister Gustav Winkler created this burial ground in 17-month construction period from 1839 to 1841 in neo-Gothic style. From 1844 to 1919 a total of 15 members of the ducal family were buried in it. This coffins had to be reburied in 1974 in another tomb in the cemetery because of the ruinous state.
